Now I’m sure the headline of this content alone will attract some flack from MLM prospecting trainers will argue that MLM prospecting is no different today than it was 20 years ago….

 

I disagree!

 

Although they are correct in that the principles are very much the same…. But the actual execution and implementation have changed drastically even from the 1990’s to today.

 

Let me explain with an example.

 

These days we all have smart phones and dumb phones that all have caller ID built right in to them. So when I call you to follow up after I’ve sent you information about my business, if you recognize my number you can choose to ignore my call.

 

20 years ago caller ID was a very new technology and therefor very few people had it. Go back 30 years and it was unheard of. So back then when I called you you had to answer your phone because it could be an emergency and you certainly didn’t know it was some MLM guy you hardly know trying to get you sing up into some business opportunity.

So does this mean we don’t use the phone for mlm prospecting any more?

 

Of course not. But it does mean we have to adjust to today’s marketplace which means building trust and rapport with our mlm prospects through social media and other communication modalities.

 

Jim Rohn said, “Your highest leveraged income producing activity is spending time in front of your prospects”

 

Back in the day this meant buying your client coffee or taking them to lunch and wooing them into your business.

 

Today it means spending time in front of them by meeting them where they’re at. Like Facebook for example. Getting them to notice and follow your posts. Engaging with them. Inviting them to some free online training webinar that you’re hosting. And the nice thing about this is you can do this with several prospects simultaneously which is huge for leveraging your valuable time.

We’ve all experienced this situation in our MLM prospecting… You get a prospect who’s about to sign up with you, they’re on the buy page and they start humming and hawing and making excuses as to why they should wait and sign up next week instead…

 

Which you know means they will probably never sign up.

 

This is how a seasoned veteran in the are of MLM prospecting handles this situation.. Lets say your prospects name is John.

 

You say… “You know John its not like we’re curing cancer here… we’re simply signing people up into the fastest growing industry in America, its really not that big a deal.”

 

You see how thats kinda challenging their ego and calling them a pansy without actually saying it and offending them?

 

See as soon as your prospect thinks that buying from you is not that big of a deal, that is when the sale is made. We call this principle compare and contrast. In this example you are effectively “effort conditioning” your prospect by comparing joining your business to a feat much more astronomical so by comparison its not a biggie.

More Valuable MLM Prospecting Training

 

One of the most important principles to understand about effective MLM prospecting is that it is a process. Just like an online sales funnel you have to put at lot of people into the top of the funnel. And some them will come out product buyers and distributors on the other end.

 

When you get this you understand that it really is a numbers game and that you don’t get paid for signing people up. You get paid for taking people through the process. Some will, some won’t, so what, who’s next! or something like that : )

 

One of the first things I learned as an entrepreneur in the network marketing profession almost 5 years ago is that you can make up in numbers what you lack in skill. This is one of the best MLM prospecting tips I’ve ever heard.

 

To me it means don’t wait until you become an expert by reading books and consuming trainings on the subject. You don’t become knowledgeable then you start prospecting. You become knowledgable in the process of doing.

 

And if you suck at it in the beginning then welcome to the club. Just understand that everyone starts at that point.

 

And luckily for you if you NEED to make your business work NOW you simply have to put up more numbers. Take more people through the process. Because when you focus on another one of my golden mlm prospecting tips that I received from a $100 million dollar income earner, it is liberating.

 

Its another acronym. Don’t you just love acronyms?

 

I sure do…. It makes things so much easier to understand don’t you think?

SANA LAWA – (Ive actually never seen it spelled out before so this may not be right at all ; )

 

Safety in numbers, law of averages

 

It basically means that if you put up enough numbers and take enough people through the process you will be safe. Rather your check and income will be secure. And law of averages simply states that on average when you take X number of prospects through your mlm prospecting system, on average X number of them will sign up.

 

And when X number of them sign up, then X number of them will really run with the business, follow the system and drive the growth of your organization along with your residual check.

 

Have you ever heard the MLM prospecting tips,  “you can’t say the wrong thing to the right prospect”

 

This correlates beautifully with the SANA LOWA principle because no matter how bad you are at MLM prospecting when you simply put up the numbers you will find the right prospects and they will join regardless of how shaky you are at taking them through the process.

 

Don’t get me wrong mlm prospecting training is super important! Its vital actually. I mean whats the point at putting up big numbers on the front end if your working towards honing and refining your skills on the back end.
