“the mastermind team” “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.” – Napoleon Hill
I’ve acquired a great deal of knowledge in the past two and a half years of my journey as a person and my transition from employee to entrepreneur. In that time, I’ve been exposed to information that has literally changed my life. In the network marketing/direct sales industry I’ve made formed some incredibly powerful connections with business leaders and serious entrepreneurs around the world. I’ve met people who I consider close friends and valuable allies.
One of the reasons I absolutely love the direct sales industry is the sense of community I’ve seen and felt. When you get started in a home business it can be extremely lonely. In many cases not only will your friends and family offer little encouragement, they will actually tell you to “stop chasing rainbows,” or that “those types of things never work out.”
Don’t listen to anyone who wants to “poo poo” on your dreams or anyone who is not in a place in their life where you want to be. Often we take advice from people in the same or even a worse position than we are in and that makes very little sense. “I need to talk it over” is a common objection many people will give when they are being sold something. Especially a business opportunity or something that has the potential to change their life for the better. But who are they talking it over with? The fireman? The dogcatcher? The guy down the street in the exact same financial situation they are in? Rarely do they say, “I want to interview a seven figure earner.” or “I want to discuss it with someone who has achieved financial freedom in their life.”
Okay I’m getting off on a tangent again.. I do that a lot with this blog but no worries. I often catch myself before I get too far out there and get back to the issue at hand. Here it goes..
It is vital to find other people in your industry who are in the trenches, doing the work, in order to mastermind with and bounce ideas off of. It’s a good idea to find people promoting the same business or marketing system you are. These are people other than your sponsor who you have no financial connection to.
I’m often asked if there was one turning point in my business. For me it was when I formed my first mastermind team. To this day, I have people in that original group of marketers who I speak with several times per week. Not only is this a great way to share new ideas, but you can encourage each other to work towards your individual goals. Reassure each other that your struggles are worth-while and to keep your eyes on the bigger picture.
One thing that must happen before anyone of any caliber and value will decide to work with you in this capacity is you MUST COMMIT. You cannot find serious professional entrepreneurs to work with you unless they see that you are truly committed and they can get value from the newly formed relationship.
Live events like the recent “Live the Dream” event, are great places to find and network with those people. Not only can you make powerful business alliances and new friends, but you begin to feel a real sense of community. You realize that you are not alone in this business. I am extremely excited to go back to vegas next weekend for my 6th live event of the year. Not only for the information I will acquire and what applying that information will do for my business, but for the people and the community. For the old relationships I will strengthen and the new profitable connections I will make.
