Direct sales is an industry that has been around since the late 1800’s with a company called Avon. Since then the industry has evolved quite a bit and the “door to door” direct selling model died long ago. Today, many direct sales companies are thriving due to traditional employment numbers being way down and many people looking for that plan B to either supplement or replace their income. Some of the best direct sales companies offer a great deal of training and support to their representatives and are innovating with modern, effective ways to reach new customers and distributors. But how do you know, with all the direct sales companies out there, which one is right for you?

This post is all about identifying qualities shared by some of the best direct sales companies to help you make more informed decisions about the companies you attach your name to.

8 Characteristics of the best direct selling opportunities

MISSION: You’ve got to have a mission that puts the success of others first. Are you behind your companies mission? Is it something that your passionate about. If not, find a new company with a mission you can adopt and get behind. The more passionate you are the more effective you’ll be. Also, does this company act with integrity and in accordance with the mission?

INDUSTRY: I recommend direct Sales via network marketing. No other business model offers so much potential with so few barriers to entry (like start-up costs). Although health care and travel are billion dollar industries, you have to also look at the level of competition. What makes your company stand out in your industry. If that is a tough question to answer you may want to start looking for new direct selling opportunities.

COMPENSATION PLAN: Direct Sales, but only if it has a residual income based compensation plan. 

Stay away from the ‘2-up’ compensation plan found in most direct sales companies where you have to pass up sales just to qualify for commissions. Everyone will tell you their company has the best compensation plan, but I’ve found the best direct sales companies have a balance of upfront income for the short term and a good residual model for long term passive income.

PRODUCTS: The long term profitability and viability of any company will be determined by the actual value of the products being sold. Does your product stand alone in the marketplace or are their thousands just like it? There are many direct selling opportunities that have great products, but heavy cut-throat competition. Could your product stand on its own? I.E. Would people buy it even if there were no “business opportunity” attached.

MENTOR: Find a mentor. Someone you can trust. Someone who has a system. Someone who already has the results you’re looking for. Find a mentor who truly cares about your long term success. The mentor should also have a financial interest in your success.

MARKETING: Use an Attraction Marketing system like MyLeadSystemPRO that does the sorting, selling, training, and follow-up for you. This system must not only attract (right keywords, ads etc) the right type of person (entrepreneur vs get-rich-quick loser), but be able to present the information in such a way that is clear, concise, to the point and not full of hype fluff or crazy promises.
